The Sr Mgr Lens Product Development & Enablement has primary responsibility for lens design / qualification, accurate and timely transfer of technical information and lens product integration within Retail, and coordinate related activities with Lens Merchandising and Lens Sourcing.  Also serves as an optical technical resource expert in lens product development and enablement and a resource for lens design review for Retail. 

 
 
MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
 
  • Serves as the primary optical technical resource for manufacturing, including changes, updates, and problem resolution associated with the aspects of lenses and related processes. 
 
  • Manages the timely and accurate recording and sharing of lens data throughout supply chain systems and production lab management systems.
 
  • Is the primary resource for new product reviews, development and integration in our various central manufacturing locations.  Provides assistance with in-store lab integrations. 
 
  • Direct and lead efforts for process changes to support product enablement in concurrence with QMS (Quality Management System) and ISO with new lens designs and materials.
 
  • Improve costs and service by providing direction to manufacturing regarding the performance of new products, coating systems, processes, and equipment.   Make recommendations based on analysis of research data, in areas of improvement such as lens processing, designs and coatings.
 
  • Direct training efforts in areas of responsibility to ensure accurate and timely transferal of new processes to the manufacturing (lab operations), engineering, R&D and when appropriate: lens merchandising, retail operations and supply chain organizations.
 
  • Provides Optical Technical review and makes recommendations on accuracy of Retail dispensing and POS literature and materials.
 
  • Direct all relevant testing and quality assessment of all elements of lens materials and coatings, and when necessary new processes through internal and external resources.
 
  • Provide leadership and direction for coordinating lens analysis and processing in a test bed environment to production.
 
  • Coordinate all appropriate lens product related activity with Lens Merchandising and Lens Sourcing business partners.
 
 
SPECIFICATIONS:
 
Education:
BS in Optics, Opto-electronic, Optical Engineering, Mechtronics, or similar field. (Possibly Optometrists/O.D. who are interested in product development rather than patients)
Desire Advanced Degree, e.g. MBA
 
Experience:
  • Minimum of 4 years in the field of Ophthalmic and Lab Operations or Lens or Eyewear or Thin Films/Coatings or Plastic Optics
  • Experience in assessing equipment, product and process development, and solving production problems
  • Experience and understanding of Direct Surface Technology (Freeform)
  • Demonstrated ability to trouble shoot and resolve compatibility issues between processes, equipment, and operating systems.
  • Demonstrated ability to synthesize solutions to a broad range of problems.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects.
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a team-oriented environment. 
  • Proven track record of individual accomplishment, contribution and team based success.  
  • Demonstrated ability to meet travel schedule up to 40%.
 
Knowledge and Skills:
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate internally with all levels of the organization and externally with groups such as National & International Standards Organizations (ANSI, ISO, VC) and Lens Vendors.
  • Developed computer skills in MS Office, MS Project or equivalent, Minitab or equivalent statistical package, and operations system software.
  • Application of Lean Manufacturing Principles
  • Strong statistical skills, problem solving and data analysis.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to communicate and listen effectively at all levels.
  • Self-motivated with high sense of urgency, resourcefulness and adaptability.
