Successes include new products created to meet specific performance requirements, development of engineering and quality systems, and international tech transfer. Respected technical leader with customers, suppliers, work superiors, peers and subordinates. Specialties: Drylaid Nonwovens, Physics and Chemistry of Materials, Thermoforming, Acoustics, Joining of Thermoplastics, Customer Solutions, Formal Communication, Encouraging and Mentoring, Systems Reconciliation
General Description: This position will manage personnel in the R&D department and participate in all aspects of product development, including developing, investigating, evaluating and testing applications as well as cost/performance improvements to existing products. Other responsibilities include engineering support to operations/sales/marketing.
PRODUCT DEVELOPMENT AND OR IMPROVEMENTS: X Establish project, product and quality specification X Research and propose materials and processes that will meet the specifications X Design, order and manage prototype tooling and fixtures X Produce prototype samples and record processing steps and outcomes X Perform tests on samples to insure they meet specifications X Track hours spent by project. Report hours to manager as required X Maintain up-to-date records on all testing and development
MATERIAL TESTING: X Evaluate and test incoming materials for licensees X Record all results and prepare a test report for Sales X Retain records and archival samples X Evaluate the effectiveness of the technology, areas of concern and estimate of practicality for the application
MATERIALS, VENDORS, AND TECHNOLOGIES: X Learn all aspects of the polymers which we deal with in all physical forms (film, foam, fabric) X Research vendors to learn their products and capabilities o Additional focus on current markets green or cost saving materials X Update and maintain supplier database and develop lists/tools for technology marketing/sales advantages X Continually update technology physical samples library X Develop relationships with key suppliers X Research material solutions, costs, availability and specifications for all products in development for job costing purposes X Continually research the market place for new technologies to help keep Genesis on the leading edge X Develop smorgasbord of material properties and weld info, tech papers appropriate for various tech show/trade show venues; group ID potential shows for participation, including a. Welding similar and dissimilar materials b. Comparison of mechanism for radio frequency vs other sealing methods like ultrasonic, vibration (frequency, amplitude, etc) c. Correlation of basic process parameters on strength of weld, material dependency (t, pressure, cool time, etc, dielectric loss factor, dielectric constant, etc) d. Internal database re process parameters for welding as function of dielectric loss factor, resistivity, etc
PROJECT MANAGEMENT: X Manage multiple projects, ensuring that meaningful progress is made on each X Synchronize efforts and needs with Production, Operations and Sales to move projects forward as rapidly as possible X Meet with Sales as required, but never less than once per week to review top projects and requirements
JOB COSTING AND PRODUCTION INTEGRATION: X Obtain raw material and tooling costs for all jobs X Participate in job costing meetings X Prepare initial Process Manual based on tooling, quality and material specifications as well as processing steps established during process development.
TRAVEL AND TRADE SHOWS: X Attend tradeshows as required by Sales X Other travel to vendors, customers, etc. as required
