TITLE: Waste Treatment Operator
LOCATION: South Bend, IN area
HOURS: Third Shift + everyone weekend
SALARY + OT
This off shift position is for a Waste Treatment Operator for the facility in the South Bend area. This position reports to the EHS Manager.
Responsible for monitoring and controlling the neutralization and discharge of all wastewater processed through the treatment operation.
Control the polymer feed unit, sludge discharge, discharge filter, clarifier, sludge pump, and the sludge pump to filter press.
All operations maintained to satisfy all IDEM and OSHA guidelines and regulations.
Control flow rates of effluent entering neutralization system to maintain proper pH.
Maintain proper discharge of sludge from the bottom of the clarifier.
Handle and move chemicals in totes in a safe matter
Daily, weekly and monthly checklists in WWT, anodize line and mechanical room.
Clean out and decant anodize processing tanks.
Monitor all instrumentation and equipment necessary to ensure proper operation of neutralization system, polymer unit, filter press, and pH control units.
Must be capable of learning and understanding anodize tank titrations process
Perform the various duties involved in testing the solutions used in the metal finishing and anodizing process. Take samples according to established schedule and procedure from each tank. Set up and run the quantitative chemical tests to determine, specific gravity, acidity or alkalinity of the various solutions. Use a variety of laboratory instruments such as pH meters, titration units, filtering funnels, hydrometers, and thermometers. Add the required reagents to the solutions contained in the process tanks to bring up to the required concentration. Keep records of the results of chemical tests, quantities of reagents added to each tank.
Must be able to performed other job duties not listed.
At least (1) one year of experience in the Waste Water space.
HS Diploma or GED
Basic knowledge of Chemistry
Worked with internal labs
Understands the calibration of metals (Chemistry knowledge)
Requires use of arithmetic through decimals and fractions, basic knowledge of chemical reagents, recording meters and controls, laboratory equipment and implements waste water treatment process and system
Open to work 3rd shift (nights) and some weekends
Able to work in an environment that is unstructured - must be flexible
