Seeking a talented Vice President of Manufacturing for an international manufacturer of merchandising systems for global retailers, with locations in the U.S. and China. Based in Rockford, IL, this person will be responsible for four non-union plants in Illinois, Georgia and China, totaling over 500 employees; and will oversee all strategic planning, leadership and control, and management of the plants. 

  • Direct and coordinate plant operations to produce assigned products within the constraints of organization directives and policies. Assess resources, expenses, and capital budget requirements.
  • Proactively lead Continuous Improvement efforts for product cost, product quality and delivery. Focus on Key Manufacturing Objectives. Track and review indicators for Production, Quality, Delivery, Productivity, Safety etc.
  • Lead implementation of Lean 5S Visual Management, Value Stream Mapping, Total Productive Maintenance, and Kaizen Lean Metrics.
  • Drive new product line integration, plant expansion and consolidation. Develop strategies for plant layout and configuration to successfully rollout New Product Introductions (NPI’s), rationalization of existing products, and maximize efficiency and inventory turns.
  • Provide guidance to multi-functional NPI teams to ensure timeliness of the product rollout and production start-up.
  • Encourage and support innovation, creativity and continuous improvement concepts, plans, and initiatives. Delegate portions of management activities to staff.
  • Ensure that responsibilities, authorities, and accountabilities of direct subordinates are defined and understood.
  • Lead change management efforts and model effective change management principles.
  • Assess subordinates needs, review job descriptions, develop goals and complete performance reviews, coach, train, etc.  Audit performance to targets.
  • Review wage, salary, training, and benefit programs.
  • Ensure the practice of Due Diligence regarding Health & Safety, Environmental, and Business Practices. Audit and implement corrective actions when needed.
  • Balance the day-to-day business while driving the organization toward manufacturing excellence. Identify appropriate interventions and countermeasures to meet objectives.
  • Establish policies and programs to ensure a trained, competent and motivated work force. Participate in key performance indicator reviews.
  • Review TQM target Performance Monthly.  Meet and follow quality initiatives as required. Provide immediate attention and follow-up to customer complaints.
  • Develop annual operating budgets, monitor ongoing intervention, take countermeasures when necessary. Establish annual capital equipment plan that will address production and facilities needs to drive increased productivity and support planned production goals. Meet budget and cost objectives.
  • Determine manpower, machine requirements, follow Kanban schedules.
  • Support best practices for integration of strategic sourcing practices and supplier negotiation management to yield sustainable results.
  • Assist in planning the long-range direction of the plant locations by developing the production organization of the future and developing individuals into a cohesive team.

  • 4-year degree in related field required; MBA preferred.
  • 10+ years in production experience in a metal fabrication/assembly environment, including prior experience in the management of multi plant manufacturing operations and demonstrated achieved improvements in key operations metrics such as on-time delivery, cycle time, productivity, quality, schedule attainment, cost, safety, inventory levels and turns.
  • In depth understanding of manufacturing operations and methods associated with custom production, processing, and assembly of special metal and extruded plastic parts.
  • Lean / Continuous Improvement and Change Management experience required. Lean or Six Sigma Black Belt/Green Belt certification(s) preferred. Proven track record of continuous improvement and sensitivity to achieving and improving manufacturing performance metrics in a multi plant environment.
  • Proven experience in Sales, Inventory, Operations Planning (SIOP) processes.
  • Experience with ERP operating system and MS Office proficiency required.
  • Demonstrated organizational leadership and operations management experience on a global basis. Excellent presentation, and communication skills.
  • Demonstrated creativity in problem-solving and team building. Mentoring skills to set direction and guidance for staff and have sensitivity to issues common to an hourly work force.
  • Proven history of managing process improvements in a metric driven culture and consistently meeting cost reduction targets.
