Opportunity Summary

Reporting to the Sr. Product Engineering Manager of the world's largest supplier of interior laminates for commercial airlines, the Product Engineer will develop new products that will be used in the interiors of commercial aircrafts around the world. For more than 50 years the company has employed some of the top designers, engineers, business professionals and manufacturing teams in a collaborative work environment where no voice is unheard to create best in class high value products that exceed the quality and delivery expectations of their customers.

  • Demonstrates company values and shares the organizational commitment to ensure quality products and processes.
  • Lead STAGE-GATE NPD process through any or all stages to develop new products that generate value to the business.
  • Research and stay current regarding trends and developments in state-of-the-art technologies in one or more of the following: polymer chemistry, additives/filler technology, flame retardant technology, adhesives, composite materials, interfacial/surface technology, polymer processing/fabrication/lamination technology, adhesives, and composite materials.
  • Support manufacturing in optimization of processing operations. This can include the compounding, coating, lamination and embossing of final construction products.
  • Support Sales and Application Development Engineers in customer visits to introduce new products, develop new products, troubleshoot problems and identify/define new product development opportunities.
  • Support Supply Chain in assessment and development of supplier base for new products and solving supplier issues around current products.
  • Develop products using excellent scientific skills/approach (e.g. design of experiments methodology, characterization/testing, material/process/fabrication scale up).
  • Collaborate with partners chosen to assist in the product development process (whether supplier, research laboratory, consultant, university or national laboratory).
  • Establish and follow processes in accordance with quality standards and our Business Management System (BMS) to deliver a quality product for the business.
  • Perform all responsibilities in a safe manner and in compliance with internal EHS policies and practices and external regulations.
  • Perform other assignments as directed by their supervisory and/or department leadership.
  • A minimum of 5 years of post-bachelor experience in an industrial research environment or equivalent, with proven results regarding inception-to-commercialization NPD project management results.
  • Minimum of B.S. in chemistry, polymer science, polymer engineering, chemical engineering, or related field. M.S. or Ph.D. desirable.
  • Excellent chemistry/polymer science knowledge from applicable education and/or experience working on industrial projects.
  • Ability to conduct experiments independently, utilizing excellent scientific skills/approach (e.g. design of experiments, scientific method, data collection/analysis, draws sound conclusions from data).
  • Demonstrated problem solving abilities.
  • Good organization and project management skills and ability to complete R&D projects from inception to full commercialization within desired timeframes.
  • Ability to read technical specifications from customers and perform or direct tests in a consistent and standardized way.
  • Excellent ability to document in laboratory notebook, spreadsheets, and reports the technical work that is performed.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to work effectively as part of a team, cross-functionally and with customers and suppliers.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills, including ability to develop technical documents and reports and present findings to small groups, both internally and externally.
  • Exceptional multi-tasking skills while maintaining quality results and completing projects/tasks in a timely manner - having a sense of urgency to deliver results.
  • Must be able to use software such as Microsoft Word, PowerPoint and Excel and the ability to learn new software programs. Knowledge and experience with Microsoft Project and statistics software (e.g. Minitab) is beneficial.
  • Some travel may be required; approximately 10%.
