CORROSION & MATERIALS ENGINEERING JOB / TECHNICAL LEADER
Needed for a Top Oil & Gas Operating Company
To Lead Their Global Downstream Refining & Petrochemicals Corrosion and Materials Engineering Group
LOCATION:
Houston, TX
ESTIMATED STARTING SALARY RANGE:
$150,000 - $180,000 + Depending on Experience / Seniority
Candidates may come from downstream oil and gas refining or petrochemicals or upstream oil and gas development organizations.
KEY DELIVERABLES:
* The materials/corrosion engineer is responsible for failure analysis and selection of materials of construction for existing Fixed Equipment and repair/replacement components at the numerous Worldwide petrochemical and chemical plants and refineries.
* He/she is assisted by 9 other matrix reports including three outside the USA and by a small local team of analytical professions who operate the SEM, metallographic, and other analytical tools and provide consulting services. He/she is also assisted by specialists in the Worldwide business units with similar responsibilities.
* He/she assists surveillance of processing units to monitor changes in operating conditions that affect the performance and/or remaining service life of existing Fixed Equipment with respect to their materials of construction. This includes analyzing process trends, monitoring corrosion control programs, reviewing equipment histories, reporting significant findings as well as providing information to inspection management (who determine inspection schedules, inspection methods, and predict remaining life of fixed equipment).
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Provide assistance to Worldwide business units in the following:
* Specifying correct materials of construction for replacement/upgrade of Fixed Equipment.
* Reviewing/approving material specifications for equipment and assemblies being purchased. This review/approval activity includes any welding procedures or other fabrication specifications applicable to assembled equipment and parts.
* Conducting Unit Material Reviews of units to identify degradation mechanisms affecting Fixed Equipment and communicate findings to unit inspectors.
* Reviewing/approving Equipment Reliability Operating Envelopes to assure proper monitoring of operating parameters critical to the service life of Fixed Equipment.
* Acting as lead in development of Equipment Strategy Development Plans for Fixed Equipment throughout the organization.
Monitoring material degradation activity including the following:
* Testing by on-stream corrosion monitoring Providing and/or overseeing the Failure Analysis of Fixed Equipment and/or parts;
* Researching
industry
publications and technical societies i.e. National Association of Corrosion Engineers (NACE) for common corrosion problems or new observations.
* Participating in the appropriate SIG to assure transfer of knowledge gained at other company sites as well as communicating experiences so others can benefit.
SKILLS & KNOWLEDGE, EXPERIENCE & TRAINING:
* Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Metallurgical Engineering, or Materials Engineering.
* Must be skilled in oral and written communications.
* Should be knowledgeable in risk management.
* Must be fluent with computer use and skills, especially data analysis.
* Thorough knowledge of ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code, ASME Piping Code, NBIC, API 510, API 570, and API 653.
* Thorough knowledge of
industry
materials related policies and procedures including applicable Global Practices.
* Working knowledge of fixed equipment program manuals.
* Working knowledge of general NDE methods including Weld Radiographic Interpretation, Visual Inspection, Dye Penetrant, Magnetic Particle, and Ultra Sonic testing.
* Some travel (worldwide) is required from time to time but typically involves less than 25% of time.
Candidates may come from upstream oil & gas production developpment organizations and/or downstream oil and gas refining and / or petrochemicals.
